Master Studies

Over the past year, I’ve made a couple of copies, ‘master studies’ of paintings by Australian Impressionists. A couple of Streeton landscapes and a portrait by Lambert. These have been a great way to learn about their artistic problem-solving methods and shake up my own approach to painting. The Lambert is the only one so far that I’ve been able to study the original of in these studies which has been particularly instructive.

I will do more, next on my list are a portrait by Leon Bonnat, a landscape by Constable, another by Streeton and an illustration by J.C. Leyendecker.

Copy of by Beneath the Peaks, Grampians, Arthur Streeton, in acrylics, approx 1/5 size of original.

Copy of a George Lambert Self Portrait in oils, similar size to the original.

Copy of Flooded Edwards River by Arthur Streeton, in acrylics, approx 1/3 of original.
